Credit Report Errors

Posted on: 28th Feb, 2010 02:35 pm
Greetings all!
My credit score has been rising slowly over that last number of years and since I was not in the market for anything I have paid cash for 7yrs or better for everything.
Here the problem, I checked my credit report today and found 2 new negatives on it. One was for $9,000.00 plus from a payroll service company and $16,000.00 plus for medical and no other info. It says that the collector is unknown. Neither of these belong to me, but I was in the process of moving and this impacted my plans severely. Besides disputing them what else is there?

Thanks
~M~
Welcome brooksjohnson,

You will have to dispute the items with the credit bureaus and get them removed. You may take the help of an attorney who may help you in disputing them with the credit bureau. I don't think there is anything else that you can do here.

adonis is right. If they don't belong to you, you're best bet is to dispute them through the CRAs as "not mine". Don't use the online dispute process. Send your dispute in writing and be brief and to the point.

Hi brooksjohnson,

You can dispute the items with the 3 credit bureaus, one by one. Send dispute letters to the bureaus, mentioning why you want to dispute the items, and that the items reported are not yours. However, remember to send these letters through certified mail, requesting a return receipt.

Regards,

Lydia.
