in recording a quit claim deed, do doc stamps always need to be paid?
I think the minimum is $.70 and that needs to be paid.

my fiancee owns a home valued at $300,000.00 and his mortgage owing was $165,000.00, i gave him $130,000.00 to pay off against the mortgage he still has a $35,000.00 mortgage in his name. in turn he signed a quit claim deed in the consideration of $10.00 with both of us being the grantor.

i still have to take the quit claim deed to be recorded and want to know what the costs will be.

I am awfull with math. Please help. How much would I pay in the Doc Stamps for a home costing $249,900?
Thanks you

The doc stamp tax in different states vary from one another. For example, in Florida, the stamp tax per $100 is $.70. So, for a home costing $249,900 In Florida, the doc stamp tax is around $1749.

That is, I calculated it as: [(stamp tax in dollars)/$100]*$249,900 = $1749.

Costs were in addition to $25k already pd in closing costs and this was not included in settlement costs disclosed. Atty says deal closed, funds disbursed- bad news you owe this... Options here, if any are...?

Hi mark!

In my opinion you should immediately go and speak to the officials at the county recorder's office. They will be able to tell you the exact deed recording fees.

Thanks.

is there a rule as to whom is responsible for paying doc stamps in a real estate transaction?
Posted on: 12th Jan, 2009 04:27 pm
Hi Stepheney

As far as I know, the parties involved in the real estate transaction can decide among themselves as to who pays for the stamp docs.

Thanks.
