Mortgage effects credit report

Posted on: 24th May, 2006 04:25 am
I have a good credit score. Few days ago, on last check I noticed that my mortgage balance was added to the items listed on our report? Is there any negative impact to our rating?
Hi Mark,

There wouldn't be any question of having a negative impact on your credit rating, if you are paying your mortgage earlier or in time.

If you have any more queries, please let us know.

Thanks
SJ

I don't think that it will have any negative impact on your credit report. You have to however continue making payments on time. This will actually help you improve your credit score.

If this has happened for first time then there is nothing to worry about as there might have been some issue of checking the payment or possibly just a new entry to be updated in every report.

This is usual practice. But this has no bearing on your credit score.

You forgot to mention whether your mortgage was already paid for or not. Anyway, if you have been making timely payments and has never missed a single payment, then there would definitely be no negative impact on your credit rating. The item which shows your mortgage balance is only probably due to a late update. On the other hand, if the item showed up in your report and you have not paid for it yet, then, expect that it will affect your credit score. Get your credit reports checked regularly and go over them one by one so that you can check for inaccuracies and inconsistencies.
