I am a first time home buyer. I have heard of home equity loan. What is it? Is it same as mortgage loan?
Hi P,
Home equity loan is a type of mortgage loan wherein the equity in the property is considered as the collateral. Equity is the difference between the value of your property and the amount you owe on your mortgage.
Take care

Home equity loans are usually taken out when you don't obtain loans from other lenders. Here your home will be used as collateral, the interest rates will be lower than the unsecured loans. You can use the loan to repay your credit card debt or renovate your home.
