What are some General Tips for First Time Homebuyers

The home buying process can be a long one, especially if you are not aware of key steps to help you get on the right path to home ownership! There are 9 general steps that are needed to get you into the home of your dreams:

Figure out your budget. See what you can afford by tallying your income, credit rating, current monthly expenses, interest rate and down payment amount. Make sure to consult with your lender to verify.

Get familiar with your rights as a home buyer. Learn about borrower’s rights, Fair Housing, and predatory lending practices.

Start shopping for a loan. Get acquainted with different lenders and shop around. Once you feel comfortable with a lender, you can get pre qualified.

Get familiar with different loan programs and such that may fit your situation. (FHA, other home buying programs).

Shop for a home. Choose an agent and hit the town!

Make an offer! Discuss this with your Realtor. If there is a counter-offer, you may want to negotiate a better deal.

Schedule a home inspection. Make sure that your offer is relative to the outcome of the inspection.

Shop for homeowners insurance. It is detrimental to not have insurance when purchasing a home. Make sure to have it!

Time to sign off and close! Read all documents and make sure to understand what you are getting!
