IRA withdrawal for first-time home buyer

Posted on: 15th Apr, 2010 05:32 pm
I want to withdraw some money from my IRA for a home purchase and wondering if I qualify for the first-time homebuyer exemption. I'm am on the title for the condo my husband and I just sold, but not on the mortgage. Do I still qualify? Thanks.
Hi lizamelia!

Welcome to forums!

As your name was mentioned in the title of your husband's condo, you were one of the owners of the property. You've mentioned that you've just sold off the property. In that case, you won't be able to qualify for the first time homebuyer's tax credit. In order to qualify for this, you shouldn't be an owner of the property for the last 3 years.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
