i had a home foreclose last year. i live in mi. tried working with the mortgage co to avoid foreclosure, etc. had it on the market. tried to refi but no one would to a refi b/c it was a manufactured home and refi wouldn't have helped b/c the interest rate would have been too high. the realtor i had said the house wouldn't sell b/c for what the house was worth(being manufactured) and the value of things going down i would have to sell the house for more than i bought it for and someone could buy a brand new manu. home with the property for the same price as my used one. bought the house for 159,900 on almost 4 acres. interest only/arm. interest rate jumped to 13% lived there almost 2 years and the mortgage co said payoff would be more than we bought the house for. it was a losing situation no matter what. let the house go and purchased a home in my husbands name. just recently got a letter from mortgage co saying i owe them 32,500 in deficiency judgement. the house sold for 156,000(bank bought it back) i obviously cannot pay this and stay at home with my kids now so no job. husband has been laid off several times the past year, we are behind on bills, have 3 kids. i am scared that if they can't get the money from me they will come after my husband even though he was not on the loan for the foreclosed home. should i worry about this. will they really come after me at all? we couldn't afford to keep that house, the payments jumped to 1800/mo and we made less than 45,000 at the time. i told the mortgage co i cannot even afford a monthly payment right now, i have to keep utilities on and food on the table first. what should i do. please help.
Hi kb!
I don't think the mortgage company will come after your husband, but it yes it can definitely place liens on your other properties.
Thanks.

By other properties do you mean my current house? Because my current home is not in my name, its in my husbands, and neither is anything else we own. The only thing in my name is a few utilities.
Hi kb14!
If you do not own other properties they can't put liens. The mortgage lender may contact the employer if you are working and will deduct money from your salary so that he can recover the debts.
Thanks.
