Foreclosed & locked out. I need my kids winter coats & more

Posted on: 26th Dec, 2012 04:31 pm
My husband and kids were living in our home and it was foreclosed. He was given a little time to remove a few things. Now it's locked. My stupid husband didn't even get all essentials. I need to get in to get my kids winter coats and other essentials for living. My kid are living in motocross trailer outside a friends home. No money no food. Please how do I get my car from garage and get my kids winter coats and other essentials to live. I am in Seattle Washington. HELP. Also in middle of divorce and no attorney. No money. I AM Desperate. I don't know how much more I can take.
Hi Destiny!

Welcome to the forums!

You should immediately get in touch with your lender and try to convince him that you need to take out the essentials. If the lender is convinced, he will allow you to take out the bare essentials that you may be needing.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

If the home was sold via foreclosure, your old lender is no longer the mortgagee of the home. Who ever purchased the home at auction is the new owner. You would have to contact and get permission from the new owner. In CA, the law is, you have a few days to get the personal belongings out of the sold home. Once the time period is up, the new owner must hold the items for up to 30 days, and can charge you legal storage rates for storing your belongings. Once the 30 days are up, the possessions become the new owners. WA may be different, If you have a sherrifs department who handles evictions, I would contact them. Or contact your local law enforecement and explain the situation. In CA, the sherrif is the one who does the evictions.
