removing items from a house in foreclosure

I am in California. My father in law passed away last year and my husband and I have being trying to negotiate the mortgage with the bank with no success...
The house is going for a short sale.
my father in law recently spent more than 80,000 in his kitchen remodel and we want to take the kitchen with us...
The house is not in our name...
Can we do that?
If the property is not in your name, then I don't think you would be able to take the kitchen with you. The lender will sell off the whole property and recover his dues. However, for further advice, you can speak to a real estate attorney and take his opinion in this matter.
