Our house went to forclosure but we stayed in it and rented it from the bank. Then when the bank sold it to the new owner we rented from the new owner. When we finally moved out we took the fridge and swapped the dishwasher for the one that was in the place we moved into. Now the owner we were renting from is telling us they need to be returned. Is he right? I mean we baught both the fridge and the dishwasher before even before we moved in to that place. And there was no fridge to begin with. And we left him a dishwasher. I thought we were being nice.
Hi Tony,
If the appliances were bought by you, then the new owner cannot ask you to return those items. You should try and negotiate with him in order to sort out the matter.
Thanks

A dishwasher is bolted to your home and becomes a fixture of your property, and then becomes part of the home, and would transfer to any new owner or tenant. Refrigerators are not bolted to the home, therefore it is usually customary for the owner, tenant etc to take the refrigerator when they vacate. Unless its in your contract that the refrigerator stays. The dishwasher must be returned, the fridge you may negotiate as long as nothing was in writing for it to remain in the home.
chrisgummerson, you are generally correct, except in this circumstance I think he can keep his dishwasher. Since this is a foreclosure, and he put the old dishwasher that came with the house back in, the owner has what he originally rented.
