I am a waitress and I am not required to claim my tips. So all that I claim is what is stated on my check stubs. For example,if I make $500 monthly from my check stubs, I make $3000 from tips. What can I do to show that I really do make this amount? Would bank statements be enough proof?
Tax returns would be proof if you reported the income and paid taxes on the income, but, you probably did not report the tip income.
Bank statements would show that you made more money than you reported and paid taxes on, but, could not be used for mortgage purposes to document and use that income to qualify.
Prior to August of 2007 , there were probably some mortgages around that you could look at, but, those mortgages are gone.
