i own my home and would like to add my partners name on the deed what is the best way to pursue this
the easiest way to do so is by using a quit claim deed. in doing so, what you'd be doing is transferring a portion of your ownership to your partner. obtaining a copy of a quit claim deed is reasonably easy - you could use your attorney's services in coordinating this transfer; you could find a sample deed that you could copy and use for your purposes; you could get samples at various places online these days...lots more.
ultimately, you'd need to record the deed with your town clerk, county clerk, etc. - whatever registry is used in your locale.
if you're a real neophyte, it's always a good idea to consult with an attorney, even if you end up doing all the work yourself. i think you can't suffer from hearing good legal advice.

Hi csmjeepers,
As George has suggested, you should sign a quitclaim deed and add your partner's name to the property deed. This will make your partner one of the owners of the property. You can contact a real estate attorney and he will assist you in drafting the quitclaim deed.
Thanks
