We got behind on our mortgage earlier this year (mortgage was with BofA). Mortgage was sold to Nationstar. I made 3 payments in August, was given the run around through September and October about making additional payments and now we are facing foreclosure.
Received many letters from the attorney Nationstar is using and I requested from them a reinstatement amount. They gave me an estimate good through 12/3/13 and suggested I call the day before I make the payment to ensure the exact amount.
Yesterday I received a notice of hearing on foreclosure from the attorney. The court date is 12/27/13.
I have contacted Nationstar multiple times and each person I speak to gives me an entirely different answer - my goal is to STOP the foreclosure entirely. If I pay the reinstatement amount by the deadline, does this actually stop the foreclosure process entirely? I don't trust Nationstar or the many different answers they give me. I don't trust the attorney either, I know they don't work for me. Every spare penny between now and 12/3 goes to this reinstatement amount so I can't go and get legal advice right now. The financial troubles we were having earlier this year have been resolved. Making the monthly payments are not a problem. The only thing Nationstar will ever suggest is to fill out loan modification paperwork; they won't give me a straight answer to the simple question "How much and by what date to STOP the foreclosure and catch up." This is why I called the attorney instead.
I'm terrified that I'll pay them the roughly $6000 at the end of this month and that won't stop the foreclosure at all.
Can anyone offer me any advice or tell me where I can go for solid legal advice?

Hi dennisrosalie,
As far as I know, if you pay off the reinstatement amount, then you will be able to save your property from foreclosure. Once you reinstate the mortgage, then you can make normal payments and pay off the mortgage.
