How can I buy a HUD Home?

Is it true that HUD homes are much more beneficial than normal property? How can I buy a HUD Home?
Only difference is you may not need an appraisal (because they are owned by fannie or freddie ) the problem is they are often overpriced to begin with so an apraisal would likely benefit you
