I live in TN. There is a 9 acre tract that borders my property. This tract has no deed to it. The tract lies between my property and my neighbors. The deeds for our tracts do not join because of this tract. How can I claim this tract? Thanks
Hi,
If you do a title search for that tract of land you may be able to know in whose name actually the land was.

Hi Fabspec,
For how long have you been staying in this property? I am asking this because, if you have stayed there and used the tract of land for a sufficient period of time, you can get legal possession of the tract as stated by the law of adverse possession.
Since you live in Tennessee, by law, you will have to use the tract of land for at least 7 years with color of title and 20 years without color of title.
I think an attorney can help you with the process of getting legal possession on the property.
Thanks,
Caron.

Hi fabspec,
One can occupy property through adverse possession after using it for a specified time limit which varies with the type of property. The period is different for properties with color of title and those without color of title.
If you are interested in knowing more on color of title, refer to our resource on this topic.
Thanks,

I live in MD and have a lot next door that apparently has no owner according to MD tax assesment maps who owns this land? There is no listing for it.
did you check at the register of Deeds or county recorder's office?
my boyfriend just bought a lot . At the closing we were told it was undeeded property. What does this mean? what should we do to ensure we own it?
