If it is Real Estate the local title company can help you out by getting the paperwork - however you better check state laws - you usually cant sell a home that isnt in your name so going through probate to get the home into your name may be the first step

Go to the county recorder's office of the county where the property is located and search the Grantor/Grantee Index for your father's name. Check online first. You should be able to get copies of any deeds.
