my lawyer charged me $200 just to fill up a quit claim deed form. after i paid, i found out that i could do it myself for free by downloading a form from the internet.
note: my lawyer will not do the registration. i'll do it myself and pay another $38-$50 fee.
is there any legal procedure that i could folllow against my lawyer in order to recover the money? thanks.

Hi Oxu,
What the lawyer charged from you was his fees for providing service; I do not think any legal procedure would be possible in this situation. You should have made some search about quit claim deeds and how they are used before contacting the lawyer.

I agree with Scanlon. Oxu, you made a mistake by not asking the lawyer about the possibility of filling up the form yourself and whether that would be legal or not.
I am afraid Oxu, there isn't any such legal procedure.
It may cost you but then preparing quit claim deed form with the help of a lawyer is the right thing to be done because he is aware of the law and the legal language.
There can be several such forms but then what your form will include actually will depend upon the type of property and the terms and conditions you may like to include without getting into trouble in future.

I SIGNED A QUIT CLAIM DEED DURING MY DIVORCE. MY EX-HUSBAND AND I ARE PLANNING TO REMARRY, DO I HAVE ANY RIGHTS TO THE LAND THAT I HELPED PURCHASE
Hi VBrown,
Welcome to forums.
Once you have signed the deed, you don't have any right on it. But if you ex-husband is willing to add your name to the title by a reverse quit claim, then surely you can have some rights on the property.
Thanks,
James.

Hi VBrown,
Welcome to the forums.
Where do you reside? I am asking actually about the state because if it's a community property and you have a mortgage on the home, then after the marriage, you will acquire community property interest. This follows the Moore Marsden Rule .
Thanks,
Sara

if i was trick in to sign a quit claim deed but the deed has not been file is there anything i can do before it is filed
If the deed has not been filed, then it is not valid. A deed becomes valid when it is recorded at the county recorder's office.
