On your hydro bill is a charge for debt retirement, when ontario hydro was suppling hydro to pickering ,i guess , they got into debt when they paid off their people retiring and they passed this onto the people paying hydro, and they call it debt retirement charge. What im asking is can i claim this on my income taxes? this is a bill i did not create, ontario hydro did. They dont offer to pay my bills why should we as home owners pay for their mistakes?
I don't think you will be able to claim charges for debt retirement on your income tax. But it would be better if you can contact a tax adviser and get his opinion regarding this issue. He is the best person who can give you the right information regarding this.
