does the Fair Credit and Charge Card Disclosure Act provide some protection if I am going to take a credit card
Hi Lydolph,
This act requires retail stores, private companies & financial institutions issuing charge or credit cards to provide certain disclosures to customers.
They have to information regarding annual fees, grace periods & APR with application and pre-approved solicitations for cards.
Card issuer imposing any annual fees has to provide disclosures before annual renewal.
In addition to it if any card issuer offers credit insurance then he has to inform the customer about increase in rate or decrease in coverage if insurance provider is changed.

Hi Lydolph,
Welcome to the forum.
The Credit and Charge Card is an amendment of the Truth in Lending Regulation (Regulation Z). The Congress passed this Act in the year 1988. This helps to ensure that creditors disclose the loan related information including rates and costs on credit and charge card accounts.
Thanks

I assume you mean FCRA or Fair Credit Reporting Act...
Aside from a variety of disclosure guidlines (consumer, public info request for employment, FBI, gov agencies, etc), there's guidance on dispute and resolution, compliance, civil liability and many other issues that protect both the consumer and the credit burueas.

But Scott, these are two different laws I believe. The Fair Credit and Charge Card Disclosure Act requires that one should receive disclosures when applying for credit and charge cards. But the Fair Credit Reporting Act is related to preventing inaccurate information from being recorded on your credit report.
