my husband owes back taxes and irs has filed a notice of federal tax lien.i owned my home before i met him and in 2004 i refinanced and was told to have a quit claim deed because in florida even though he is not on my mortgage its considered community property.i filed separate during the 7 years we were married.will the irs still try to attach this lien to my home.
Hi Miller,
If the property belongs to you only, then the IRS may put a tax lien on the home if the dues are not paid. Though your husband should have paid off the back taxes, yet if he hasn't, it's your reponsibility to clear the lien as you are the current owner. The home is yours I believe and hence you need to keep the title to the property free of any lien.

Hi,
As it is a community property state I think the tax lien can be recovered from the home, if in case he is not able to pay the taxes from his other financial resources.

HI Dmiller,
Lien shows a legal claim to your property as security or payment for your tax debt. By filing the notice of lien signifies, the creditor is publicly notified that they have a debt against the property. This notice is issued by court. The full lien amount will remain a matter of public record until it is paid in full including all accruals and additions.
So, until and unless the total lien amount is paid off, IRS will notice the federal tax lien publicly. It affect you credit report and you cannot able to take any other loan on your property.
