Do I still own half the house after divorce?

Posted on: 28th Dec, 2010 09:36 am
life presents many chanlleges such as making your court date on time for divorce settlments. however, i missed the divorce hearing and the courts awarded a home to my now ex-wife. i'm left with a divorce creed that states she owns a home, yet the mortagage company still carries me on three credit reports as a deliquent home-owner (3 months late). do i still own half a home or half the mortgage headaches after marriage? if not, does the quit claim deed mean i'll lose the benefit and profits from a sale of this oasis if i file? as the man living in the state of ohio trying to get the state of georgia to excersice good-faith, it appears to mean, "until debts do us part."
Hi stevielott,

I guess your name is mentioned on the mortgage docs as one of the borrowers of the loan. As a result the mortgage appears in your credit report. You should ask your ex-wife to refinance the mortgage in her name. You can even sign a quitclaim deed and transfer the property solely to her. This will make her the sole owner of the property. Thus, your name will be removed from the loan. It will not get reflected in your credit report as well.

Thanks
