Hello,
My name is Tawanda and I am trying to do the right thing. My father pass away a year ago in Rocky Mount NC and left no will. I could not find anything at all no insurance, no deed, no will, I mean nothing. So that left me to pay for the funeral cash. Okay now he leaves a house it is paid for, I had to go get a copy of the deed. I want to change it to my name but her is the problem, I know he remarried but they were separated for a long time. His niece call them to let them know he died, they never came to the funeral and no one has heard from them. So the house is just sitting there and I have ben trying to pay the taxes in it. I am lost please can someone help me and guide me in the right direction.
Thanks

Hi Tawanda,
If you can manage to get a written document from them saying that they have no claims over the property, then you can file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and get the property transferred in your name.
Thanks

Welcome Tawanda,
You can speak to a real estate attorney who will let you know what you need to do in this regard. He might contact them and sort out the matter for you.
