If I am laid off, and not finding income needed for my family, can I go to school and get help with my mortgage until schooling is complete?
You can contact your local city and state housing programs to see what they have available. Sect. 8 is for renting only, but there might be a program in your area to help homeowners stay in their homes. Have you tried to contact the bank?

It is not mandatory to join the school in order to get mortgage help. As Chris has said, you should contact your bank in order to receive help from them for your mortgage payments. You can apply for forbearance wherein the lender will reduce or suspend your mortgage payment for the time being - say for a period of 6 months.
