Reommendation is the correct spelling, not that I am great in English anyway. Are you sure it's not a explanation letter instead of a recommendation letter you are asking about?
If it is a "letter of explanation" (LOE is a commonly used acronym) then lenders are interested in knowing what happened, why it happened, and why it won't happen again.

Hello MELISSA,
I agree with Shane above. This letter requires an explanation why you have late payments. This is a process that lenders applies to check your credit worthiness.

To whom it may concern
I, (your name), have had late payments on following credit cards (list the cards) in months of (list the months) because I had a death in the family. (what happened, did you have to pay anything for the funeral?) All of this caused my late payments. I understand that its important to pay my bills on time and I have always striven to do so in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
Sincerely,
(your name)(date)
