My name is Iesha Phidd. I am disabled and I receive disability. I would like to know, how can I buy a house with Section 8?
Hi Iesha,

Welcome to Mortgagefit discussion board.

Section 8 Voucher Program is one of the largest federally assisted housing assistance programs for low-income families. These voucher programs are administered at the local level by regional & local housing agencies known as PHAs or Public Housing Agencies.

Please go through this article to know more about the details of the program: Section 8 Voucher Program

Thanks

Is it really possible to buy home with section 8 voucher? I thought it was meant to help one pay rental costs monthly.

Yes Alex, the section 8 voucher program is quite popular among would-be homeowners, especially those who are suffering from any kind of disability. Low income families looking to buy home can easily go for it by availing the voucher program.

Under this program, borrowers can take loans from local banks. The Public Housing agencies participating in this program will allow eligible families and individuals to convert their current section 8 vouchers from rental payments to mortgage supplements. Thus borrowers get the chance to choose between mortgage and rental payments.

The HUD had initially come up with certain provisions for the voucher program. You will get an overview of the provisions from http://www.alliance.unh.edu/section8finalrule.html .

Thanks,

Caron.
