Can a parent have a mortgage in their name for a child and not lose Homested Exemption?

I have bad credit and my mom has great. If she puts the property that I want buy in her name, does that jeapordize her and my step-fathers homestead exemptions?
Hi julia,

The transaction may jeopardize your mother's and step-father's homestead exemption if they stay in the said property and apply for a homestead exemption for this new property. They will not be able to claim the exemptions for 2 properties. I would suggest you and your parents to contact an attorney who is an expert in the homestead exemption laws of your state and take his opinion in this matter.

Thanks
