My father passed away a month ago and my sister and I are joint tenants on the property. My sister was the person that handled my fathers finances and I am not sure if she took a loan out on my fathers home. How am I able to verify this without having to confront my sister. I was under the impression my fathers home was free and clear.

You can contact the county recorder's office and check out whether or not your sister has taken out a mortgage on your father's property. Or else, you can contact a title search company and they will help you in finding out whether or not there is a lien on the property.
