Any way for a fulltime grad student to get a home loan?

Posted on: 23rd Feb, 2009 08:28 pm
(Sorry if this is not the appropriate forum.)

I am going to start law school in the fall and instead of renting this time around, I was hoping to buy a condo or small home in the 100,000-150,000 range.

This would be my first loan of any type and I have a limited credit history, but no missed payments of any type and only around 10k in outstanding student loans.

I do not have a job as I have been working for my parents since graduation, but they would be willing to cosign on anything or put up property if it would help.

I have savings and will be receiving more than enough from Stafford loans to cover the mortgage expenses for the next three years.

Would a bank take a chance on a blank slate like myself or show me the door before I could sit down?
Hi Rookie,

I think you should speak to the lenders of your area and check out if they are ready to give you a loan. You have mentioned that you have been working with your parents and they are even ready to co-sign for you. This can be a positive point for you and may help you in getting a loan.

You can also speak to the lenders of this community and seek a no obligation free consultation from them. This will also help you in knowing whether you will be receiving a loan or not. This will also help you to know the rates you can expect to get.

Thanks.

They have free help here that you can sign up for on the main page and talk to a loan officer or lender.

i'm so sick of this "i can help i am on line now" nonsense from the mortgage man x. he is a serial violator of the precepts of this forum, and i urge everyone to avoid him.

mr grad student, your stafford loans will not be income. methinks you'd be best served to have parents purchase a home as a second home for themselves; add you as cosigner perhaps so as to help you establish a track record. then, after a while, you'd be able, perhaps, to take over the ownership for yourself once you have a job with a wage.
