in 2009, both my husband and i filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy. he had issues with a judgment in 2010. the issue was that the medical office was saying he owed $3064 but the majority of it was actually covered under his bankruptcy. we did get it satisfied and all we had to pay was $270 and of course, we paid it right away. he has a current fico score of 620. he is a supervisor at his place of employment. i filed for bankruptcy after i was laid off in early 2009. i had several credit cards that were pretty much maxed out. my bankruptcy attorney told me that i needed to be late on my bills to make it look more acceptable when i file for bankruptcy. so on my credit report, it shows that i have several accounts with a "failed to pay" status but was covered under chapter 7 bankruptcy. i am a stay at home mom, my fico score is 652. i do have one collection on my report from 2010 but i paid it as soon as i found out about it. my husband and i have no credit card debt, we just paid off our car. we do have the expected monthly bills and i have one school loan for $1600 that i am current on, no record of late payments. we do have a down payment ready. the only thing we are waiting on is for the credit report to update that the car loan is paid off, and then we intend to get pre qualified. what are the chances that we will get approved? is there anything else we should do to help improve our scores before we apply?
Hi Guest,
If you have paid off the car, then you should ask the lender to update your credit reports accordingly. Normally, after a Chapter 7 bankruptcy discharge, you need to wait for 4 years in order to get qualified for a conventional loan. Nevertheless, you should get in touch with the local lenders and apply for a mortgage.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Guest!
Welcome to forums!
I agree with what Jerry has said. This community has a large number of lenders. You can seek a no obligation free mortgage quote from them in order to know whether or not you can qualify for a loan. It will also help you know what type of rates and terms you will qualify for.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
