Hi Youngwidow!
Welcome to forums!
As the mortgage is not in your name, you're not liable for paying the loan. However, if you don't pay the loan, the lender may take foreclosure actions against you. In order to stop foreclosure actions, you should assume the loan and pay the debts on time.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Well without their consent in doing this, you'd have to pay them off to get the home equity line of credit.

Seems to me that nobody on this particular thread is seeking to obtain a home equity line of credit.

Once you have effectively purchased home loan financing to purchase home, the next matter that you have to do is faithfully fulfill your month to month debts. In the earlier numerous your home finance loan, a considerable area of your month to month home loan repayments will involve interest. This implies your most important payment will probably be a little bit significantly less. But since you advance your home finance loan, your interest payments will disappear since your main bills raise.
