my ex-boyfriend and i purchased a home together. his father gave us $45K for a downpayment. we have since broken up and my ex will not move out of the house unless i pay the dad back the money. i didn't ask for the money it was offered. the house is in major negative equity. is there any way i can get out of this with him? i can afford the mortgage alone.
Welcome colleen,
I guess the down payment was a gifted money. In that case, your boyfriend should not ask you to give back the money. However, as you can afford the mortgage alone, you can buy him out by offering him a certain sum of money and ask him to sign a quit claim deed in your favor. This will help you in becoming the sole owner of the property. You can then refinance the loan in your name.
