My brother and I bought a house together in 2005. I recently married (Aug 2010), and I now want to part ways. Is there any way I can transfer my portion of the loan to him? I would like to be free and clear of any debt so that I can start a family and purchase a home with my husband.
Hi msdiatis!

You can transfer your share of the property to your brother by signing a quitclaim deed. As far as the mortgage is concerned, your brother will have to refinance it in order to remove your name. Once he does so, you'll be able to get a mortgage on your own to buy a property along with your husband.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
