Me and my husband have inherited a house from his grandmother. The septic system is failing and we do not have the means to fix it ourselves. I was curious if there was anyone on here that have used this program, and if so, how did it go?
Hi
The USDA Rural Housing Repair and Rehabilitation Loans are useful for the homeowners who can't afford the costs of repair and improvement of their homes. These are Govt-funded loans. You can avail upto $20,000 loans for a term of 20 yrs at 1% interest rate and a grant of $7500 if you are more than 62 yrs old or older. In order to qualify you have to have very low income which is defined as 50% of the area median income.

Is applied in US only or its in EUROPE too?
My hubby and I are both over 65 yrs and on social security. We live on the family farm in central Texas. Our 100 yr old home is in dire need of a sanding and paint job, the metal roof leaks, the wood window sills are rotten, the front porch is warped and in places rotten. We moved here in 1990-91 and redid some of the plumbing and eventually the kitchen, bathrooms and one bedroom wiring. Then we ran out of finances. There is inadequate ampage in the breaker box. Need to move my bedroom downstairs to the living room due to my disability, but the wiring is of the 1930's and I won't use it. Do we qualify for government housing repair assisstance? How do I find it?
