i purchased a mobile home eight years ago and my ex-spouse is living in it. the divorce papers gave her possession of the mobile home and she agreed to make the payments. what can i do to encourage her to refinance?
Hi Tim,

Welcome to forums.

When your ex-spouse agreed to make the payments on your behalf, did you inform the lender about this? The lender would have perhaps wanted her to refinance the loan in her name because she started making payments.

How's your spouse's credit and does she earn a living for herself? if she has good credit and income, getting a loan will not be of much hassle. So you can perhaps assist her throughout the loan process and make things happen faster.

Thanks

at one time you persuaded the lady to marry you, so see if you can use those old powers of persuasion again to convince her to refinance and get you off the hook.

yes, i was just being funny up there, but truly, trying to convince someone to do something is all in the effort. to receive generic advice on how to talk her into it is not really going to be fruitful.

your ability to convince her will be predicated on your persuasive powers, along with the current status of your relationship with her. if the two of you are getting along alright, you will clearly have more success than if you're battling.

Hi,

As the divorce decree gave her the rights of the house then she is the legal owner of the house now. You have not mentioned whether the mortgage is in your name only or not? If yes, then you are only liable for the loan though she agreed to pay the loan. It is up to your wife to refinance the loan in her name, but this again has to be approved by the lender. If your wife has a good credit score, good source of income and clear credit history, then the lender may allow her for the refinance. Consult with a good lawyer who can guide you better.

Rita, I have to think that 2 years later, it doesn't matter as it once did.

2 years ago? oh yes I see, your styles changed a bit over the years George, less "predicated"'s and more "based on"'s now....adapting to the customer base?

Seriously though - isn't there some restriction on necro'ing threads?

Funny...but what did I use "based on" to comment on? And I have always felt that a little erudition was in order.
