Hi
So first a little backstory. My husband and I own a house in NH. I recently accepted a postdoctoral fellowship position for a place in NH. My husband has a job in NH. However, we are planning to rent out an apartment in Vermont, but not sell our house (rent it out instead to family). Can we keep our tax and residency in NH? or do we have to change it all to Vermont? Or can we claim like a dual residency and then just also pay Vermont taxes? My position is for a time of three years, but it is a fellowship wherein I am able to defer my taxes. Thanks :)

Hi wackslice,
If you're residing in Vermont, then you will have to change it to that state. You cannot keep your taxes in NH. For more information in this regard, you can contact a CPA and take his/her opinion in this regard.
Thanks,
Jerry
