hello,
I live in NJ and want to buy a house. I just found out after the home inspection that the house has a cesspool and not a septic system. I've been told that you cannot get a mortgage without one. Is this true?
thanks

i have not heard of that before. Ask more lenders and see what is their response. If the former home owner can get a mortgage , i think you can too.

welcome to mortgagefit.......
Most of the time laws changes as per the new government, and this could be the case with this situation.Previous homeowner might have got the mortgage without septic tank but this could not be the case with you due to change in laws pertaining to your local governing body.
I request you to check it out with local governing body before you purchase the home......
keep in touch..........
