I have a friend who wants to change his name legally in the states. He's been told by his state (Ohio) that in order to change his name on his property he needs to submit a quitclaim. The question is what are the consequences of that action. Can you sell the property later with no problem? Does it have any long-term impact on credit records?
i think, and this is 100% opinion based on no facts at all, that a person in this situation would be wise to provide all of the credit reporting agencies with the documentation concerning this change of name. in that fashion, they might be able to merge his new information much more cleanly with the old, thereby allowing for a seamless transition credit-wise.
that covers the credit situation. as for selling a home, the owner of record is a seller, so that ought to be no issue at all.
i understand your cynicism - there are lots of ways in which such a change could go wrong, i presume. then again, there are newly-married women changing their names daily, and i'd have to suspect that process can't be to onerous for them.
