I'm trying to bring up my credit score. Currently it is at 598. I have had a lot of late payments and financial problems in my college days. I have been paying my credit cards since the past 1 and 1/2 years and it's not yet over. With a score as low as this, will I qualify for an unsecured card? I may put in $300 for the secured card but I can do it if there's no way I can get an unsecured card.
Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum.
I think you can apply for unsecured credit cards. With even low score people can get this cards and it will eventually help you to build your credit score if you make the payments regularly on time.
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.
Best of luck,
Larry

Welcome Mark.
I agree with Larry that you can qualify for credit cards but need to pay on time to improve your score but if you make late payments it will rather destroy your credit.
Let me if you have any more queries.

Make sure that you shop around, I was just looking for an unsecured card with a score just about like yours, it is so tough to make a decision, there are so many products out there. Choose wisely and read the fine print. Hopefully you will have better luck than me, I got tired of shopping, actually got a headache doing all the comparison and just gave up. goodluck, hope you have a more pleasant experience.
With the times the way they are it will be hard to find a card that is right for anyone. I keep hearing how they are raising payments and rates. Jbarto I can believe when you say this is a headache. Alot of these cards start with a low interest rate and after 6 months or a year skyrocket to 22-29%.
Well these cards are not for me, I will not be paying this outrageous amount of intrest. Hopefully, others will follow suit, if they do not make money off it, there will not be a market for it.
My biggest worry is our Lowes card. The interest there is 22% and we HAD to have it or we would not be in our home right now. If the balance is not paid by Nov. all the interest charges from the past year will be applied. I can not sleep over worrying. I can see why people become alcoholics. Sometimes I mix up a strong one to help put me to sleep even if it doesn't mix with meds. OK NO SERMONS>>>I KNOW ITS WRONG>>>
