I was going through a refi but then got laid off. I had paid given some money and before i told the refi lady i was not going through with it, the bank cashed the check. Can I get that money back?
You can if the appraisal wasn't completed. If it was already completed then you will not be refunded because the appraiser was paid and he completed his service.

Absolutely - just ask your Loan Officer to cancel the loan and return your money.
