My friend's mother who is about 75, her husband has dies long back in the 70’s. before he died, he told her that if anything happened to the home, in California , she would be paid as he has been paying extra with the mortgage payments. The wife assumed it was mortgage insurance., Now after the husband died, his brother had called up the mortagage company and was informed that there was no insurance. A few years later, the wife found the policy but she was told that the statute of limitations have passed and they did not have to pay. What I want to know is: how do I help her. I am a retired person and cannot offer monetary help but what can I do to take her out of this situation.
Welcome Colbert.
You can try to contact the state insurance commissioners office and explain him the situation.

Hi Colbert,
If you can have her brother-in-law provide a sworn statement of all that they told him, she can file a lawsuit claiming that the insurance company has lied and committed fraud.
Thanks,
Sara
