A friend and I have been renting together for nine years. Neither of us can afford to seperately purchase our own home. Can two people who are not married or related get a mortgage together from a bank?

Thats absolutely possible
You cna see lot fo peopel have done the same in thsi forum.
The key woudl be to have a good agreemtn between two of you so if there is a conflict between two of you, then the agreemtn protects both of you
Good luck and feel free to ask
