My father purchased the house on his own. 7 years laster my mom was added(not knowing she is a money hungry person). as a co-borrower....she left 2 years later with another man and she think she is intitled to half of what the house is worth when my dad paid over 20 years for the home all by himself. Now he wants to sell but she wont sign. iam thinking of getting a real estate lawyer but i need some similar stories or tips. My dad's name is the ony one that shows up on the property tax and on the district appraisal.
this could become quite messy. when your mom was added to the deed, there were certainly no stipulations concerning greed, i am sure. based on her ownership of the past several years, i'd guess that most every court of law is going to agree that she's entitled to some portion of the proceeds. now for her to refuse to sign anything is downright foolish, inasmuch as she'll benefit from a sale, more than likely.
i'd certainly agree that it's worth discussing with a real estate lawyer, but you may find out that there's little that can be done to prevent her from being paid.

Thats correct. Sicne her name is already on the property, ti is difficult
