My husband passed away in August 2009. I'm still working full time but his death means a $60,000 decrease in our annual HH income. Do mortgage companies take this into consideration and generally work with a person in these circumstances?
Every mortgage company is different. I recently tried to help a couple who had lived in their home for a long long time. They stopped paying their mortgage because they both got cancer and had to apply all their money towards that effort. The Lender, Indymac Bank, didn't care and wouldn't work with them at all. I've heard other Stories whereas the Lender's were working with homeowners with scenarios like theirs.
How is your Lender?
How is your Lender?
I don't know yet. When I attempted to get a lower rate or lower pmt while my husband was fighting cancer, I was told I'd have to get behind a couple of payments to demonstrate hardship. I figured that would put my home in jeopardy so wouldn't do it. Now I might not have a choice.
