I have a will from my parents saying that I get the house after they pass away. Well that has happen what do I have to do to get the deed in my name?
Hi Barbara
It may be different in different states however if it is a will there usually is a probate court. This can be very expensive and the lawyers can get quite a bit. I have had to do this twice in the last 6 years. Each time I did what was called a summary probate. I was able to do this because the values were low and neither exceeded the limit. The limit is based on the entire estate. I am not an attorney but I would definitely suggest consulting with one to see if the estate needs a full probate or if a summary will do. The paperwork for a summary I was able to do on my own and had a step by step book that helped me. Until the court grants you the home it cannot be put in your name....
Good Luck

Hi Barbara .
Welcome to the forum.
I have to agree with Brian that you need go for probate to get the ownership of the property. So you should contact with an probate attorney. It may be a bit expensive and time consuming but that is what you need to do.
Best of luck,
Larry
