My husband & I file chapter 7 in Sept. 2010 in Michigan. It was discharged in Dec. We have not made house payments since last May. We do not want to keep the house. More is owed on it than it will ever be worth again.
We have moved out. Foreclouser has not started yet. Who should we tell that we've moved from the house? Mortgage company? We plan to have utlities turned off next week. Thanks for your advise.

Hi margwilde!
Welcome to forums!
You can contact the mortgage lender and surrender the property and inform him that you've left the property. I hope this will serve your purpose.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Thanks for the info. I have another question? How long are we still liable/responsible for the house? What should we do about the home owners insurance?
you should contact the mortgage company and let them know you will let it go into foreclosure, they may suggest you applying for a deed in lieu of foreclosure, this will not impact your credit as bad, understanding your credit has already been damaged by the bk, however, every little bit helps right? in regards to the homeowners insurance, that would be a good question for the lender because until they take ownership of the property you will still be responsible. good luck!
Get in touch with your mortgage company, they should be able to help answer all of your questions or direct you to help. Good luck with everything!
