Hi--please help. I bought my first house a couple of years ago. My mother was living with me at the time and the bank wanted her to be a co-signer on the mortgage loan, even thought I made plenty wage wise, my credit was good but not great. My mother soon moved into her own place after I bought my house and then recently she filed bankruptcy. What I didn't realize is that her bankruptcy now shows up on my credit report. I was going to file for a quitclaim deed but not sure if there is something else that I should be looking into to help with this situation. I'm sure that this is a start but maybe I need additional help with this problem.
Hi Rena,
I hope you haven't filed bankruptcy jointly with her. In that case, your credit report will only mention that the property was included in another person's bankruptcy. However, it will not affect your credit score in any way. You can contact a bankruptcy attorney and he'll guide you in a better way.
Thanks
