I thought I had secured a remortgage but have just been told by the bank that if my ex is detailed as having a charge against the property they will not now offer this. Is this going to be a problem with most lenders? & if so does anyone know how to get round it?
hello floura
welcome to the forum,
I hardly think that it will affect your remortgage plans if your ex is no more there on the deed.Have you got quitclaim deed from your ex then just let me know if it is there.
R u full time employed?what is your score exactly?

hi
flaura, if there's a charge against your property you'll not be able to sell the property without paying the debts. the mortgage company will not be willing to refinance the property until the charge is removed from the property. but is your ex still on the title to the property? because a charge can be placed only on the property owned by the debtor. so, no charge can be placed on your property for your ex's debts, unless he or she co-owns the property with you.

you didn't explain the charge flaura, but that isn't necessarily a big deal. however, i'd think that the lender(s) would allow your refinance if the account in question were to paid in full.
