I have a 15 year mortgage $38,000 I have paid this mortgage for 14yrs 8 mos.
Due to loss of job I didn't pay it out. CitiMortgage sent me a tax form (1098) with final interest and the Tax Interest Statement said 27,022 paid
balance $0.00. My interest rate was 12%. But this amount has to be wrong.
That's not the issue: I called and they say by loan is "charge off" and was
sent to their legal department. I call them and they said my case is closed with them and will fax me something stating the reason being it was charged off uncollectible.
Now I have a call from a collection agency for this $27,022, and CitiMtg
legal does not have any record that another agency was contacted. But the ne collectors say they work for CitiMortgage.
What do I do? I don't want my house foreclosed on but I don' t want to pay money I don't have to keep it and I don't have to.

Welcome Natasha,
The lender has charged off the loan and assigned your account to a collection agency who in turn will collect the dues from you. It will be better if you could contact the collection agency, negotiate with them and get a payment plan to pay off the loan.
