I bought a house with a girlfriend in September of 2006. She left in December of 2006. I paid all expenses and all down payment from my personal funds. Can she claim half? We are not married and I can clearly prove my trail of funds. Also can she claim contents of the house? Can I claim half mortgage payments from her and make her start making half payments.
Thanks
Thanks
Hi columbus,
Welcome in this forum.
Is her name on the mortgage? If her name is in the mortgage, you can ask her to pay her share of payments. If she does not agree, you can ask her to quitclaim from the property.
Is she in the deed? If she is in the deed, then you should request her to quitclaim and transfer her share of property to you. If she does not agree you can buy her out.
Thanks,
Larry

Hello Columbus,
If your girlfriend is on the deed then she has ownership rights to the property and can always claim her share.
If she is on the deed as well as on the mortgage, then you may ask her to make half the payments. If she doesn't have ownership rights then probably she won't agree to that.

If she is on title then she can claim half.
