Now that I'm discharged, Sallie Mae is reporting my defaulted student loan in the wrong status. I called Sallie Mae and they told me it’s not in their hands now. They gave the loan to united student aid fund. I called united and they told me that they turned it over to a collection agency, and some one will be calling me anytime soon. What should I do?
You can ask the contact of the collection agency from the united student aid fund. Then you can contact the collection agency on your own. Else you can wait some more time.
Hi kooln,
Student loans don't get discharged in bankruptcy filing. You will be still liable for the payments to the creditor even though you file bankruptcy. If the account has been assigned to a collection agency, then they will contact you for the payments.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hello Kooln,
You can always talk to the various private loan consolidators out there. Remember to look for the institution that offers the cheapest interest rate.

As you told that you applied for student loan and you are saying that it is in wrong status. You must ask to your friend or any knowledgeable person that what questions you must as to that agency. You should prepare list of question that you have regarding to loan.
